Personalization of Google Results Creates a Huge Advertising Opportunity
Shared by Hugh
Amazing observation of last night's Pontiac ad during the Super Bowl. To instead tell people to go to your site through Google to maximize personalized search instead of a direct link is a great way to push yourself in future search results for the same user. Guess I need to get me back at the top for http://www.google.com/search?q=hugh+fletcher. -

You know I can't see why anyone would think letting Comcast buy NBC is a good idea with these two tools at the helm. And Democrat or not, Al Franken for President!

How to Use Google Docs Folders as Labels
Shared by Hugh
The one reason I never embraced Google docs because of (what appears to be) it's lack for a labeling system that is otherwise in used in every other Google app. Apparently with a little know how, it's available in docs too. -
Named Scopes with CodeIgniter
Shared by Hugh
Named scopes are a really powerful feature of models - they allow you to define a clean, concise syntax when performing queries within your models - and best of all, are really easy to utilise in CodeIgniter.
This is a really interesting way of using your models in CodeIgniter, or in any framework really. The usefulness of models in some apps is debatable, especially in smaller projects, but Jamie's method of chaining with named scopes can allow you to set a very flexible model that would be highly reusable. His suggestion of extending it with a base model that includes your basic CRUD functions is on spot too. Did I mention Jamie is just 15 years old? Smart kid. -

Google Voice Is Coming Back To The iPhone Via The Browser, Thanks To VoiceCentral
Shared by Hugh
This is amazing and an example of Google determination's to improvise and adapt. The innovators beating the innovators. I am strongly thinking of dropping my iphone and moving to android for two reasons, and the lack of ability to use Google voice on the iphone is one of them.Last summer, when Apple pulled third-party Google Voice applications from the App Store, one of them was VoiceCentral. Apple’s subsequent rejection of the official Google Voice app spurred an FCC investigation, but Google Voice never made it to the app store and none of the other apps ever made it back in.

Srirangan » Blog Archive » Enterprise adoption: Does HTML5 stand a chance against Flash technologies?
Shared by Hugh
Not entirely sure I agree with the author on this, all though it's nice to see a pro-flash(flex) article in the flash vs html5 debate. Html5 is in it's infancy and not completely adopted by all browsers. It's no where near being a contemporary use for web apps. To compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Do a comparison in 5 years, the fight will be more fair. But having worked with Flex for nearly three years and being familiar with what the Flash platform does offer, there was not much in HTML5 that got me really excited.
In fact I am going to stick my neck out and make a series of claims and eventually conclude that the benefits of choosing Adobe Flex today completely overshadow HTML5.
